William “Bill” H. Duling, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4th, 2023.
Bill wore many titles, husband, dad, grandpa, stepdad, brother, son, and friend. He was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and generosity to all those with whom he came in contact. He will be dearly missed by all.
Bill was born the youngest of three children to Omeda “Alice” Duling (Nèe Roahrig) and Joel William Duling in Coshocton, Ohio on June 21, 1929. Bill went to Plainfield School, Plainfield,Ohio and he would often attend school reunions as years passed. He attended Ohio State University and studied Dairy Technology before joining the Army, serving during the Korean War, and then moving on to the Air Force Reserves. He had a long and successful career in sales and was still running his business Duling Displays Inc, in Sarasota, Fl. until March of 2023. Through the years he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, traveling, his corvette, and spending time with family and friends. He was a long time member of Edgewood Country Club in Commerce TWP, Michigan and later a member of Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wayne Alton Duling and his beloved sister Matilda “sis” Porteus, his precious grandson William Alton Duling, his beautiful daughter Kim Janzen and stepson Todd Houston, along with many other dear family member and life long friends.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan E. Duling (nèe Frey) of Sarasota Florida, son Joel Duling and daughter-in-law Lynette of Richland, Washington. His son-in-law Scott Janzen of Fresno, CA. His mother-in-law, Irene Frey (Nèe Neff) of Springfield, Ohio. His stepchildren Maria (Jesus) Nava of Dallas, TX, Jennifer (Kurt) Traugott of Cooksburg, PA and Tony Houston of Sarasota FL. Grand children Matt Murbach, Whitney (Alex) Butin, Laine (James) Bengston, Luke (NIkki) Janzen, Harrison Duling, Jenna Duling, Armando Nava, Franny Nava, Gus Traugott, Elizabeth Traugott, EvangelineTraugott, Lucy Traugott, Ajay Houston, Brit Houston, Allyson Houston, and Andrew Houston. Five great grandchildren and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A grave side service will be held at 11:30 AM, September 25th, 2023 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
