Wayne Jones
02/05/1958 - 05/07/2021
Wayne Jones passed away on May 7, 2021 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family after a long, devastating battle with Covid-19. Wayne was a third-generation lifelong resident of Sarasota and graduated from Sarasota High School in 1976. He loved anything related to aviation having spent his career working at Jones Aviation, his family’s fixed-base operation on the Sarasota Bradenton Airport. In addition to hanging out and doting on his family, he also enjoyed travel, cooking, live music, building things, craft beer and sports car racing. Faithfully, for the last 54 years, you could find him at the 12 Hours of Sebring during the third weekend of March; in 2020 he was voted Fan of the Year, a celebration that was unfortunately postponed by the pandemic. He was also a founding member of the Sarasota Racing and Drinking Enthusiasts. He loved his family dearly and is survived by his wife, Jeannie (McAlvany); his three beautiful and amazing daughters, Melissa, Lindsey, and Taylor; his two granddaughters Madison and Olivia (whom he doted over and who will miss his special character chocolate chip pancakes and his ability to fix anything); his two sisters Sandy and Kathy; and myriads of in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Clyde and Alva Jones, and his two bothers Gary and David Jones.
A Celebration of Life is planned on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Big Top Brewery in Sarasota, FL from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the La Jolla Institute of Immunology supporting Coronavirus research for new therapies and vaccines (https://www.lji.org/covid-19/) or UF Health Coronavirus Response Fund (
