Roger Coffman Swartz, 89, died suddenly in his home in Sarasota, Florida on January 9th, 2026. He was born in Flint, Michigan in 1936 to Alden and Coyla Swartz. Roger was raised in the thumb of Michigan.
He married Janet Elaine Perry of Detroit, Michigan in 1958, after serving his 1-W service. Roger worked a long career of 38 years at Ford Tractor while living in the Waterford, Michigan area. Roger and Jan retired to Sarasota, FL over 31 years ago. He kept busy working as a handyman, and helping those around him who were in need.
He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Robert and his sister LouAnn, his sons Timothy Roger and Daniel Robert. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet Elaine Swartz; sisters Sharon Norton (James), Karen Bontrager; son Mark Allen of Sarasota; daughter Ruth Laetz (Jason); beloved grand children Cassie Rice (Pat), Carly Westensee (Jeff); Reagan Laetz, Laura Laetz; beloved great grand children Anna, Whitley, Ellison; Ophelia, Lutsen, Kepler.
Viewing is 9:30 am and the service at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Bethel Mennonite Church, 2985 Bethel Lane, Sarasota, FL 34240.
Burial will be in Michigan.
