Rodney Martin Jacobson, age 79, passed away on January 7, 2026.
Rodney was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and grew up in Yuba, Wisconsin, and near Silver Bay, Minnesota, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and boating. A gifted student, he graduated as valedictorian of his high school class in Silver Bay, Minnesota, before attending the University of Minnesota, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He later enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served honorably during the Vietnam era, including service as a lighthouse keeper in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Following his military service, Rod pursued a legal education and graduated from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
Rod was known for his kindness, selflessness, and steady presence. He found joy in boating, building houses, spending time outdoors, and especially in the companionship of his dogs. Above all, he cherished his family and the simple, meaningful moments of life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Watson; daughter, Amanda Howe; his son-in-law, Connor Howe; and his beloved grandson, Rodney J. Howe.
Rod was born to parents Dorothy Rott Jacobson and Leif Jacobson. Rod remained deeply connected to his family throughout his life. He shared a close bond with his brother, Roger Jacobson, and Roger’s wife, Ellen. He was a proud uncle to his niece, Sharon Jacobson, and her husband, Derek Snow, as well as his nephew, Steve Jacobson. Rod also held a special place in his heart for his many cousins from the Rott family in Wisconsin and the Sve family in Minnesota, valuing those family ties and the shared history they represented. In addition, Rod is survived by his lifelong best friend, Dr. Roger Stanek, and Roger’s wife, Ginger Stanek, whose friendship was a constant and meaningful part of his life.
Rod will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered fondly for his generosity, integrity, and quiet strength.
