Rebecca “Becky” J. Denison, of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully at Sarasota’s Tidewell Hospice House on Monday, April 8, 2019, after a ten-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born December 30, 1958 to Frank and Mary Jane (Bryant) Denison in Waukegan, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Best and father, Frank. Becky is survived by her sons, Geoff McLin (Grace) and Skyler McLin (Lauren), both of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Jane, of Mundelein, Illinois and brothers, Charles (Debra) of Lindenhurst, Illinois and John (Rosemary) of Lake Villa, Illinois.
Becky was passionate about many things in her life. After her retirement in 2013, she moved to Sarasota and was able to truly enjoy the things that brought her joy: making new friends, hanging out at the beach, working out at her health club, caring for rescue cats, enjoying the arts, and supporting places like Mote Marine and Selby Gardens. She loved the beauty in nature and all it had to offer.
One of her favorite quotes was by John Waters, “I’m so lucky to be having a happy childhood as an adult.” She passed this sentiment on to her sons.
She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her courage in dealing with anything that came her way. She did not want to be defined by her cancer and did not let it rule her life. She simply dealt with it as it came, head on. She will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have had her in their lives.
Memorial donations may be made to Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and Tidewell Hospice House (Rand Blvd.), of Sarasota.
