Penelope “Penny“ Susan Hapgood Cook passed peacefully, dancing through the gates of heaven due to a short term illness at age 81 on Friday, October 15, 2021 at her recent home of Bay Village in Sarasota, Florida.
Penny was born on January 10, 1940 in Boston Massachusetts to Helen E Kunckel and C John Hapgood. She then moved to Toledo Ohio as a child.
Penny went to Devilbiss high school where she met her former husband Larry W. Cook (deceased). They were married on August 4, 1956. They built a home together in Sylvania, Ohio where they resided for 26 years together.
Penny was employed at Stouffer‘s as a banquet manager and Bill Knapps as a server part-time when her three children were in school. She then went on to become a property manager for Spieker Realty, Cavalear Realty, and retired from Genacross Lutheran housing in 2006.
Her family was her true joy in life. Each child, grandchild, great grandchild, niece, and nephew have their own special memory of time spent with her. She was the queen of fun! Beach days at the lake, picnics, shopping trips, board games, and especially cards. She made sure every grandchild knew how to play poker. She always seemed to find the silver lining in any circumstance, which she carried with her right up until the moment she passed. She was always available, never too busy for family or friends. She left us with so many gifts, the best of which are laughter and love. She also taught us true perseverance and generosity.
She leaves behind three children, Michael L Cook (Jennifer), Dawne M Williams (Rodney), Julie L Kesler (Dr. C. Jeff), as well as nine grandchildren, Tarah Cook (Roe), Michaela Cook, Michael Growden (Sara), Kursten Growden, Scott Williams, Samantha Williams, Annelicia Kline (Anthony), Seth Abner, and J. William Kesler, 6 nieces and a nephew and their children that were very close to her heart, and many close friends new and old, especially her dear friend Gloria Beyer.
She has now been reunited in Heaven with her best friend and sister, Charlotte Benner.
