Mary Ellen Felker, age 91, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Sarasota, FL. Born May 8, 1933 in Rockford, IL, Mary Ellen graduated from Beloit High School in Wisconsin and moved to Melbourne, FL where she met and married her husband, Frank. They moved to Sarasota in 1964 where they raised their 4 children.
Mary Ellen was always volunteering her leadership, whether as a parent at Incarnation School, as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts, or anywhere else there was a need. She made many lifelong friendships through her association with these communities, including being a founding and lifelong member of a local group of Girl Scout leaders from the 70’s who called themselves The S’mores, who shared their knowledge with the next generation of scouts and scout leaders and met often for over 40 years! She enjoyed traveling, sailing, camping, crafts, gardening, picnics, organizing and hosting get-togethers for friends and family, and last, but not least, decades of playing Mahjong weekly with her friends.
She is survived by her devoted family including daughters Kim Moulton (Joey), Lori Madden, Teresa Felker, and son Michael Felker; granddaughter Christy Kreis (Jason); grandson Kevin Madden, and great-granddaughters Gracie Kreis and Ella Kreis. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents and her brother Bill. Mary Ellen felt very fortunate to have all her children living in Sarasota and they were at her side when she was called home.
