Margaret Doolittle Vickroy

Surrounded by family, Margaret (Peggy) Doolittle Vickroy, born April 23, 1932, in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Daughter of Sears Polydore Doolittle (d.1961) and Alma Steinmetz Doolittle (d.1983), and sister of Mary Elizabeth Clayton (d.1983). Beloved wife of William (Bill) (d.2018); devoted mother of Theodore (d.2018), William Jr. (Kathryn) and Nancy. She is cherished by relatives in the Vickroy, Clayton, Heffner, Hickman, Nelson, Barrington, Kris, Segala, and Taylor families.
Peggy, a graduate of Cornell University (1952), was a life-time member of the League of Women Voters, including a term as president of the St. Louis Chapter from 1971-1973. In 1977, she was elected the first woman Alderman in the City of Creve Coeur, serving 8 years. From 1985 to 1991, she was the first woman Mayor for Creve Coeur. An active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis, she dedicated her time and energy to the Women’s Guild. She and Bill also donated their time tutoring needy children in St. Louis City schools and were active members of the Missouri Botanical Garden. Throughout her life, Peggy enjoyed sewing, knitting, tennis, bridge, gardening, and boating. She was a very encouraging, supportive member of her family, devoted to her friends and community, and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She is dearly missed.
