Edward Rudolph Kump, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on May 11, 2026. Born on May 4, 1933, in Calumet, Edward was raised in a large and loving family alongside his five siblings, whom he cherished throughout his life.
From a young age, Edward understood the value of hard work. He began working early with a paper delivery job and later spent a short time working in the copper mines of Michigan. He was proud of his strong work ethic, humility, and determination — qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
Edward loved sports and the outdoors. Hockey was a special passion of his, and he proudly played on a hockey team in Calumet during his younger years. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. He enjoyed keeping busy with projects around the house and gardening, blueberry and strawberry picking, and, occasionally, baking his famous oatmeal cookies and making homemade wine.
Edward proudly served in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Korean War with honor.
He especially loved family vacations, relaxing drives, and making lasting memories with those he loved most. He had a warm personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a way of making people feel welcomed and comfortable wherever he went.
At a wedding, Edward met the love of his life, Marlene, and as they say, the rest was history. On June 21, 1958, they were united in marriage and together built a beautiful life centered around love, laughter, and family. Together, they raised three children: Dana Mary Pila (Joseph), Regina Jo Kump, and Joseph Edward Kump.
Soon after they were married, they relocated to the Chicago area. Edward worked for Electro Motors as a Millwright, where he dedicated many years to providing for his family with pride and commitment. While he worked hard, nothing meant more to him than the people he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, and family man whose greatest joy came from simply being together and helping others. Whether it was family trips, camping adventures, boating outings, Sunday drives, or everyday moments at home, Edward created memories his family will treasure forever.
Years later, they spent more time in Florida. He will be remembered for his loving heart, gentle spirit, kindness, faith, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. Music filled his heart and enriched his faith throughout his life. He was the kind of man who showed his love through his presence, hard work, humor, and the simple joys of being together. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a caregiver at heart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; his children, Dana Mary Pila (Joseph), Regina Jo Kump, and Joseph Edward Kump (Amanda); his grandchild, Joseph Pila; his sister, Jane; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, especially Patricia and Wes Krasnodebski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Mary Kump; his grandchild, Adam Pila; his sister, Barbara Gasperich (Ralph); his brothers, Rudy Kump, Francis Kump (Mary), and John Kump; his brother-in-law, Joseph Warren; his sister-in-law, Katherine Ryne (Joseph); and many beloved aunts and uncles.
The family will celebrate the life of Edward Kump with a private ceremony.
His wife, Marlene, will love him forever and keep him in her heart always.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided care, compassion, and support during this difficult time.
