Donald Hamilton Cox

Donald H. Cox, formerly of Walkersville, Maryland, and most recently of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on December 21, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born in Walkersville to the late Andrew and Pearl Cox.
Don graduated from Walkersville High School and had a full life as a loving father, devoted husband, and caring friend. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Coleen Kay Cox; sons, Gregg Cox (wife Stephanie) and Scott Cox (wife Renata); stepdaughters, Tabitha Berryman (husband Todd) and Tonya Gilchrist (husband Nathan); as well as four grandchildren: Zachary (wife Alyssa), Ryan, Daniel, and Deacon, who will carry on his memory. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Cox; sons, Mark and Keith Cox; and his brother, Victor Lee Cox, and sister, Goldie "Gae" Whitmore.
Don was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed collecting shells from Siesta Key Beach. Above all, Don will be remembered for his deep love for his wife and his unwavering faith in God.
A proud veteran, Don served in the 558th Army USAR from 1961 to 1964 serving honorably in the US Army Reserve for over 5 years. He was stationed at Frederick, Maryland with the 21st US Army Corps beginning in January 1958. There he trained to become a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (the Army's equivalent of Automotive Mechanics training). He supervised field level maintenance and recovery operations on light and heavy wheeled vehicles. Later Don was transferred to Fort Knox, Kentucky and joined H & S Company 1st Training Regiment where he helped with the training of other mechanics until he was discharged in December 1963.
A Celebration of Life is planned for April 12th, 2025, 1:00 PM at Grace Christian Fellowship, 130 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Maryland 21750.
