Christine Horney (Czarnecki), 78, formerly of Harper Woods and Walled Lake, Michigan, and most recently of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025.
Christine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Horney, in 2000; her parents, Sophia and Gregory Czarnecki; and her brother, Gregory Czarnecki. She is survived by her loving children, Sue Ann Resnick, Steven Horney, and Daryl Horney, and her cherished granddaughters, Gabriella and Alexandria Resnick, daughters of Sue Ann and Michael Resnick.
Christine’s life was marked by warmth, adventure, and deep love for her family. She adored her grandchildren and showed up for every special occasion in their lives, creating memories filled with joy, laughter, and love. To them, she was lovingly known as Nana — a title she treasured above all else.
She had a deep love for gardening, and her home in Walled Lake was surrounded by the vibrant beauty she lovingly cultivated year after year. Christine poured her heart and hard work into her garden — planting, pruning, and caring for every flower with pride. It brought her peace, joy, and a sense of purpose, and her colorful blooms were admired by all who passed by. Her garden was more than just a hobby — it was an extension of her generous spirit and appreciation for life’s beauty.
A passionate traveler, Christine found wonder in exploring new places, with Turkey holding a special place in her heart. A lifelong collector, she adored antiques and treasured the stories behind each unique piece. Her home was filled with lovingly curated items — each with its own history — and she took great joy in sharing them with others.
She spent many happy years in Walled Lake, where she enjoyed watching fireworks on the beach, boating with loved ones, and hosting sleepovers for her granddaughters. In later years, she embraced life as a snowbird, savoring the sunshine and beach days in Fort Myers, Florida.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal service. Her granddaughters will honor her memory by spreading her ashes during their travels — a tribute to the adventurous, free-spirited woman she was.
Christine’s love, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
