It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Barre, a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the age of 79 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. She was surrounded by her loving children who were by her side throughout her final days.
Born on February 2nd, 1945, in the state of New Jersey to Caroline Virginia Van Der Woot and Samuel J Cohn, Carol's warmth and loving nature were evident from a young age. She was a constant source of strength and support to her family and all who knew her. In her life, Carol exemplified kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of devotion to those she loved.
Carol was the beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Barre, who predeceased her unexpectedly in 2013. Together, they built a life full of love and cherished memories over 41 years of marriage. Their bond was a shining example of partnership, and Carol carried that love with her in the years following his passing.
As a mother, Carol nurtured and cared for her five children - Cheryl Barre, Tracy Barre, Timothy Barre, Rick Skelton, and Jeff Skelton with boundless love and patience. Her heart swelled with pride as she watched them grow, and she remained a steady presence in their lives, always offering encouragement, wisdom and a listening ear.
Carol's role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys. She adored her seven grandchildren -Christopher, Melanie, Dustin, Brennan, Mikayla, Johnathan, and Matthew; as well as the newest additions to the family, her great grandchildren, Emrys and Aelvious. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Carol's laughter, hugs, and gentle guidance will remain etched in their hearts forever.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Carol spent 30 years of her career with FEMA, serving her community and country with unwavering commitment. Her work ethic and compassion were evident in everything she did, always striving to help those in need.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carol was a woman who embraced life with vigor. She had a deep love for travel and adventure, always seeking new experiences and excitement. Carol remained active and full of energy, living life to the fullest even in her final days. Her spirit of adventure and joy will be remembered by all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her dear sister Virginia, and a host of loving extended family and friends who will miss her deeply. She was a friend to all and was always there to lend a hand, offer support, or simply brighten someone's day with her warm smile.
A celebration of life was held Sunday, December 15th, at her beloved Mobile Estates, where her neighbors, family and friends gathered to honor the remarkable woman that she was. She will be remembered not only for her unwavering love but for the way she made everyone around her feel valued and cherished. Carol's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, and she will be forever missed. May she rest in peace, knowing that her love and kindness will continue to ripple through the lives she touched.
