Carl Merkt

Carl Merkt, born December 8, 1935, peacefully passed away at the age of 88 on July 10, 2024, in Bradenton, FL.

Carl served proudly in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England during his service. After his military career, he dedicated over 30 years of service to the Continental Can Company.

He was a loving father to his children Suzanne Blank (Tom Blank, husband), Lisa Emberger (Bill Emberger, husband), and Steven Merkt (Doreen Merkt, wife), whom he shared with his former wife, Regina Casey.

Carl cherished his role as a grandfather to Christine Ortiz, Rebecca Higley, Samantha Merkt, Harrison Merkt, Sean Emberger, and Elizabeth Emberger, and great-grandfather to Karina Ortiz, Alex Ortiz, Carmen Portillo, Benjamin Higley, Samuel Higley, and Fitzroy Rodriques-Merkt.

Carl is survived by his beloved brother Albert Merkt.

Carl was predeceased by his partner of 30 years, Shirley Sikking.  He and Shirley shared a rich community of friends at Vista Pines in Stuart, Fl, where they formed cherished bonds and shared many happy moments.  In his spare time, Carl enjoyed playing golf, playing pool, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and spending time with friends. 

Carl's funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl's memory may be made to the VA.
