Boyd "George" Weich

Boyd "George" Weich passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Born March 12, 1949, in Dunkirk, NY, George was the son of Nellie and Boyd Weich. He graduated from Martin County High School in 1966 as valedictorian, and attended Mercer University and University of Florida, where he earned degrees in Science and Horticulture. George had a passion for nature in all its glory, particularly the growing of plants. He curated botanical gardens in Pauley's Island, SC (Brookgreen Botanical Gardens) and Sarasota, FL (Selby Botanical Gardens). George was also a fixture for many years at the Sarasota Farmers Market on Saturdays.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his partner Jerrine Grim, sister Lucy Smith-Adams, niece Kelly Tessitore, her husband John, and their children Nicholas, Emma, and Madeleine, and niece Page Reed, her husband Joel, and their children Mason and Stella. Though George was a man of few words, he had the attention of all when he spoke. He will be deeply missed by those he left behind.
