After a lifetime of illness, pain, & struggle, Beth Slocum of North Port, Florida, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the young age of 47, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida. Beth was born on November 21, 1971 in Oregon, Ohio to Russell & Cheryl (Ferguson) Slocum and resided in Northwood, Ohio. Beth attended Northwood Public Schools where she was an all-star athlete. She participated in Track, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball at Northwood Middle School. Beth continued to participate in Volleyball, Basketball, & Softball at Northwood High School until her family relocated to Punta Gorda, Florida in 1987. Beth continued with her all-star athletic performance in Volleyball, Basketball, & Softball while attending Charlotte High School, being voted Most Athletic in her class her Senior year and awarded MVP in Volleyball and Basketball. She was also honored to be part of the Southwest Florida All-Star Basketball Team. Graduating in 1990 from Charlotte High School, Beth had scholarship offers from various colleges to play all three sports. She continued her post graduate education at Florida International University (FIU), in Miami, Florida. Her time at FIU was unfortunately cut short after two years due to illness.
Beth was known for her big bright eyes, infectious smile, beautiful hair, contagious laugh, and sense of style. She was well liked for her humor, spunkiness, quick wit, friendliness, love for all, and her kind & compassionate spirit. Beth was a hard worker, gaining employment for many years in restaurant management to successfully being self-employed in designing & creating beautiful window treatments, lawn care & landscaping, and commercial & residential cleaning. Beth loved to dive into her work. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her nephews and niece. Beth enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, and almost anything and everything adventurous. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, listening to George Straight & Elvis, dancing, and loving on her little dog Kali. Beth had a love for dragonflies & dolphins.
Beth is proceeded in death by her father, Russ. She is survived by her fiancé George Davis, mother Cheryl Slocum, sister Jennifer (& George) Ayres, and nephews and niece, Jesse, Jacob, & Kaylyn.
A celebration of life for Beth will take place on Friday, October 11, 2019 @ 6:30p.m. at New Hope Community Church located at 5600 S. Biscayne Drive, North Port, Florida 34287. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to New Hope Community Church or American Porphyria Foundation (
