Barbara F. Stevens, 84, of Venice, FL, passed away May 4, 2023. Barbara was born on January 1, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, IA, with a degree in Elementary Education. Soon after graduating, she married and moved to the Philadelphia, PA area, where she had children, and worked as a teacher.
In Port Washington, NY, she earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science, and she worked for 16 years as a Librarian at the Great Neck Library. She retired in 1997 and moved to Venice, FL with her late husband Robert M. Stevens. After retiring, she became extremely active in the AAUW, serving as the Branch President for two terms, then as Florida State AAUW president. Barbara’s hobbies included playing Bridge, traveling and attending Orchestra performances.
She is survived by her son, Jeffery Stevens and his girlfriend Lynne Carpenter of Sarasota, daughter Karen Stevens of Venice, grandson Andrew Stevens of Winter Park and sister Marilyn Amundsen and brother-in-law Richard Amundsen of Alpharetta, GA.
