It is with profound sadness that we announce that Andrew Rekret (AKA Andrzej) passed away in his home in Siesta Key, Florida. Andrew was born in Nowy Sącz, Poland and later moved to Krakow with his family. Andrew attended the Catholic University of Lublin. Following a period of intense political activism, Andrew fled Poland with his wife and son, eventually settling in Canada and later moving to the US. He trained in the humanities, and later trained and practiced as a Speech Language Pathologist and as a computer scientist. He was once named one of "50 Men of Influence" in Canada for his pioneering work in designing computer-assistive devices for the disabled. In later years he turned his attention to research and development in composite materials for green energy. He instilled his passion for learning and justice in his two sons, Paul (AKA Paweł) and Philip, and he will be dearly missed.
He is remembered by the mother of his sons Teresa, his brother Tadeusz, his sisters Teresa and Barbara and their families, his cousins Andrew and Anna, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Refugee Legal Support
